Catching Fish

Image
The first day we were sailing we caught,... well I don't know. This is how the story goes. We were just sailing along with our fishing line out, when all of a sudden we got a bite. Then fast as a bullet Dad jumped and started reeling it in. He yelled at Mom," Put it on auto pilot, I need help". Then he yelled, " Grab my phone". Well, of course I grabbed the phone. "Go get the two fish books", he yelled. I did just that, though I got a little seasick going down below. This had been the most exciting part of my day so far, except seeing hundreds of dolphins. We pulled it into the boat, and he said," Don't step down it has needle sharp teeth". I looked in the first fish book and it had a colored picture of a Sierra, and that's what it was. I looked in the second book and got some facts and I had picked the exact lure they had suggested to use for catching Sierra. That night we went over to our friends boat in the anchorage; an

What I love about Mexico

Image
Marina Real I love tacos and Takis  (spicy rolled up chips). People are always smiling and happy; they seem fearless and kind here in Mexico. Peoples attitudes are different.  There are very beautiful sunsets. I like swimming in the ocean and the pool, I really love snorkeling. I can't wait to see dolphins and whale sharks. I loved Mexican Halloween because you get a hand full of candy from each person. I can't wait for Dia de los Muertos, it's today!  Last but not lest, I love the Spanish Language! Sonoran sunset No filter, just pure beauty!

We are at the border of Mexico

Image
After visiting with friends in Utah, we spent time with my grammy and auntie in Arizona. It was good to see them, and if you read this I give you my hugs and kisses.  Finally, we reached the Mexican border, it was windy and cold. I thought now we have only 5 hours to go.  When we were only an hour away from San Carlos we stopped and ate sopa (soup) which was very peppery, but very good!  When we arrived in San Carlos we were really excited. Especially our driver who was swerving down the road from excitement, I worried we were going to get in a wreck. We went to the boat yard, it was hot and sandy. We had to go pick up a ladder so we could get on the boat. Climbing on the ladder was scary, it was high and I was worried I was going to fall. When I walked into the boat I thought to myself this is where I'm going to stay for six months with my parents. I'm going to die! I'm afraid something bad could happen, or I may lose my best friend, or miss my home. We have been

What the heck is S/V Milou?

Image
Me driving Milou Milou is french for the name of the dog "Snowy", in the comic books Tin Tin. But Milou in this case is a 1983 Beneteau First 38, a 40 foot sailboat. We spent three nights in Mexico looking at Milou and a nice day of sailing her. It was very fun when we sailed her and I really liked driving the boat. On the third night my parents came back from a drink with the owners of Milou, and told me they had bought the sailboat. I cried so hard and yelled "take it back, take it back, take it back". I felt a mixture of feelings, BUT not excitement. I was afraid of leaving home and of the unknown.

Two Flights and a Car Ride to Mexico!

Image
Road side taco stand I never knew about this trip, my parents just said we were going somewhere. My mom said it was code word Milou. When I came home from school one day they were buying plane tickets somewhere, I thought we were maybe going to Los Angeles to visit my cousins. I never thought it could lead to such a drastic change in my life. Two days later after my best friends birthday my mom had packed my bags and said "load up", kinda like a dog. We arrived in Tuscon, AZ the next day and with some drama we got a rental car. I was thinking, seriously I just want to go to a hotel room people. It was like I was stuck in a never ending travel extravaganza. We pull up to the resort, it was hot and sandy I was sore from sitting in the rental car for 5 hours. What the heck are we doing here? Then I saw this! AND I KNEW MY LIFE WAS OVER!!! Marina San Carlos, Mexico

An Introduction to Me

Image
Hi, My name is Ellie. I'm 9 years old and in 4th grade. I live in NE Oregon in a small town called Lostine. My favorite thing to do on the weekends is to read. I'm sorta excited my parents bought a sailboat, but I would prefer to stay home because I'm nervous. I hope I'll make lots of friends. I'm looking forward to swimming, snorkeling and hopefully seeing dolphins. If I see dolphins I'm definitely sending pictures to my best friend Cal. Since she loves dolphins! I really hope I can stay in touch with my best friend. I look forward to seeing Hannah, a girl I met in Mexico while looking at the sailboat. Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you will continue to read my posts.
